Quote of the day....

"Tell me. I'll forget. Show me, I may remember. But involve me and I'll understand."
Chinese Proverb

No one can understand everything another must face....yet, when you do it together, you share it all.

This is for the friends that think they must do it alone....you do not!

Funny Quotes...

Sometimes we need things to make us laugh....these do that for me....

"I told my psychiatrist that everyone hates me. He said I was being ridiculous - everyone hasn't met me yet."
Rodney Dangerfield.

"You have to stay in shape. My grandmother, she started walking five miles a day when she was 60. She's 97 today and we don't know where the hell she is."
Ellen DeGeners.

"Have you ever noticed? Anybody going slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac."

And then we have our fearless leader to steer our country in the right direction. His intellect and grasp of vocabulary makes us all speechless......the always impressive George W. Bush.....

"A low voter turnout is an indication of fewer people going to the polls."

"I was raised in the West. The west of Texas. It's pretty close to California. In more ways than Washington, D.C., is close to California."

"Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning?"

"What I am against is quotas. I am against hard quotas, quotas they basically delineate based upon whatever. However they delineate, quotas, I think, vulcanize society. So I don't know how that fits into what everybody else is saying, their relative positions, but that's my position."

"It's clearly a budget. It's got a lot of numbers in it."

"One word sums up probably the responsibility of any Governor, and that one word is 'to be prepared'."

"If you're sick and tired of the politics of cynicism and polls and principles, come and join this campaign."

MasterCard Commerical???

I received this email and thought I should share it. It is based upon a true story and really is priceless.... You've got to love this guy.

This is a true story about a recent wedding that took place at Clemson University. It was in the local newspaper and even Jay Leno mentioned it. It was a huge wedding with about 300 guests.

After the wedding, at the reception, the groom got up on stage with a Microphone to talk to the crowd. He said he wanted to thank everyone for coming, many from long distances, to support them at their wedding.

He especially wanted to thank the bride's and his family and to thank his new Father-in-law for providing such a lavish reception. As a token of his deep appreciation he said he wanted to give everyone a special gift just from him. So taped to the bottom of everyone's chair, including the wedding party was an envelope. He said this was his gift to everyone, and asked them to open their envelope.

Inside each manila envelope was an 8x10 glossy of his bride having sex with the best man. The groom had gotten suspicious of them weeks earlier and had hired a private detective to tail them.

After just standing there, just watching the guests' reactions for a couple of minutes, he turned to the best man and said, "F--- you!"....then he turned to his bride and said, "F--- you!"....Then he turned to the dumbfounded crowd and said, "I'm outta here."

He had the marriage annulled first thing in the morning. While most people would have canceled the wedding immediately after finding out about the affair, this guy goes through with the charade, as if nothing were wrong.

His revenge--making the bride's parents pay over $32,000 for a 300 guest wedding and reception, and best of all, trashing the bride's and best man's reputations in front of 300 friends and family members.

This guy has balls the size of church bells.

Do you think we might get a MasterCard "priceless" commercial out of
this?

Elegant wedding reception for 300 family members and friends: $32,000.

Wedding photographs commemorating the Occasion: $3,000

Deluxe two week honeymoon accommodations in Maui : $8,500

The look on everyone's face when they see the 8x10 glossy of the bride humping the best man: Priceless

There are some things money can't buy, for everything else there's.....MASTERCARD!

Tag: My First Kiss....

I have been tagged, so you asked for it. Sakshi wants others in the world to go through the pain and uncomfortableness of revealing the first kiss and I aim to please. So, to set the stage...I was 14 almost 15 and not very sure of myself at all. I had had no contact with boys really at this point. I barely even talked to them yet. Yep, late bloomer over here. I had so many interests other than boys...it just never occurred to me to want to be around them.

Then one sunny day, a boy enters which was a cousin of a neighbor. He was cute. He was also much older. This boy was mature..I mean he was 17, practically a man at that age, or so I thought then (boy don't get me started on the naivety at that age). This boy was the cute that makes you giddy and I couldn't stop smiling. I went as far as offering to help carry wood to be around him. That got some laughs from the other guys. I didn't see it though. At this point the day was warm, the music playing and me moving in slow motion while my guy was encased in dream-like haze blocking everyone else out. I was infatuated.

So I saw him the first day and was really hoping to see him the second day. He talked to me but I was so nervous that I couldn't really talk very much. I am sure he thought I was 'special' in the beginning. I also had this habit of pushing on my nose when I got nervous. I sure that really helped things out in the sexy girl department.

So, the first day was great, he talked to me and I stared. Then the second day arrived and so did my man....

In the past so many years ago:

I am so tired to today since I slept so little last night. I just kept thinking about how cute he was. I only wish I was one of those pretty girls that guys liked. I truly haven't realized, until now, how I am not like the other girls. I just don't have those qualities. So I sit here now reading my book, or trying to at least, wondering if he will stop by today.

Mom calls from upstairs, they are here. I don't know why, but I definitely going to find out. I walk outside and he is there with my neighbor. I feel dizzy. I again have that stupid smile on my face and a completely blank mind. I walk up to them both and the neighbor says that they want to go out in the power lines (very hilly where I lived) and would like to use our 4-wheeler for his cousin. The cousin looks at me and smiles. YES, yes, anything he wants of course. I calmly say that would be fine and I hope they have a good time. But he looks at me and asks if I want to go. There's enough room for two. Again, yes, yes, of course. I again do my stupid nervous smile and touch my nose and say that it sounds like fun, let me go and change my shoes. I hear the laughing and I know they know that I'm embarrassed and that I have a crush on him. But it doesn't matter. In two minutes I am going to be hanging on to this cute boy for at least an hour. YES!

I change and come out and climb on. I am so very excited. We travel through the woods, across streams and over hills for what seemed like a very long time. In fact, it was probably only about a half hour, but I was in a daze. We continued for a while longer and then stopped by a stream. The three of us sat talking about nothing important. I was really trying to watch every word to not sound like a stupid nervous girl. I wasn't paying much attention to those two, I was to busy smiling internally about the cute boy sitting right next to me with his leg nonchalantly brushing up against mine. So, apparently I missed the cue for the neighbor to get up and head back with us following close behind. When I went to get up, the cute boy grabbed my hand and said wait a minute. I did...of course.

We were alone. I was so nervous, I couldn't have spelled my name at this point. He was there, I was there, and no one else was. Wow....what do I do next. Well, it was apparently out of my control. He asked me a question, but I wasn't paying attention. I was to busy panicking on the inside to listen to him. So, he grabbed my chin to make me look at him. And then...he descended in on me. I was definitely in a state of panic. Do I close my eyes, do I not? Do I lean, do I not? And what the hell do I do with my hands. This is what I was thinking, the boy didn't even register at this point. But then he leans in and kisses me.

This is GREAT! He likes me, he is kissing me.....I am a woman now. Yep, irresistible, sexy, attractive woman with a very cute boy. I still don't know what to do with my hands though. I should have read up on this....

Wait a minute....what was that...that was gross...OH NO....GROSS, WHAT WAS THAT....GROSS, IT WAS SLIMY....whatever he is doing is making my stomach turn...

I feel sick.....

There it is again...OMG....He stuck his tongue in my mouth!!!!

On Purpose......WHY WOULD HE DO THAT??? ..... WHY?...WHY?

Oh, No, he's trying again....I think I'm going to be sick....

Yep...definitely going to be sick....I have to go now....better run for the bushes.....

Yes, I am now in the bushes...the cute boy is sitting by the stream and I am humiliated and grossed out at the same time....I just don't understand. I just don't like or understand this slimy thing and why he would do it. I am ready to go home now.

Epilogue: As you can imagine, this was not someone that I ever saw again. And the thought of kissing someone again didn't cross my mind for more than a year after the 'incident'. I can say that I will never forget that day or my first kiss...sadly enough, he probably won't either.

A Quote To Live By.....

If there was ever a quote to live by, it would be this one by Albert Schweitzer:

"Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful."

If you love what you do, there is always something worth getting up for.

My Mr. Potato Head...

If only they sold parts to make the perfect guy.....

I would build him from scratch because I am obviously not happy with ones off the shelf, pre-made. First of all, these name brand guys have been fondled and move around by every other female looking to see if there is something better in the back. So, no thank you to the ones on the edge. I have tried many different stores and many different brands and found them all lacking in some way or another. I just can't seem to find the right package (no pun intended).

So, I am building my own:

Head Shape: I suppose I am not too picky in this area. I would rather not have the light bulb shaped head...it just looks creepy. Egg-shaped isn't bad.

Hair: I do find bald men attractive, so can't rule them out.

Eyes: Yes please. Although color is not important, I would like them to be big enough that he doesn't always seem to be squinting, but not too big like a Pekingese. I might be afraid to scar him!

Nose: None that cover his whole face or give him away when he's hiding behind a tree. I do not wish to give small rodents a place to get out of the rain. Pointy or well-rounded will be the area in which I will allow room to work. I don't really specifically have one in mind.

Mouth/Smile: I do not wish for a man with a small mouth. The seem to always have that "I just swallowed something bitter face". I would also not like it to be the Steven Tyler type that seems to touch his ears. Again, this is an area of lead way.

Chin: Yes please. I would like to know it's there but not be the only thing I see.

Body type: I love a man with muscles, especially nice arms, although I have found that this is not a good indicator of the perfect man. I have to say that men that are too big are in fact a turn off. Men...it is important that you have a neck.

Intelligence: Most definitely. The pretty ones might be nice to look at, but there will be little to talk about 'after'. (wink wink nudge nudge).

Sense of Humor: Must be witty and sarcastic. Without the combination, life will be boring. But most importantly, you won't understand it when I am making fun of you...

Goals
: Yes please. He doesn't have to save the world, but at least think about it. So I suppose, thinking at all should be one of the qualifications. Damn, the really dropped the number of potentials down....

It's Time To Step-Up and Save Darfur

I obviously cannot give first hand accounts or describe the horror I have seen in Darfur. I can only give an objective, reading all I can opinion to the atrocities that are occurring in Darfur. I find myself angry about how little coverage this genocide is getting. Some do not like that word to explain what is occurring, but sadly enough, no other words fits better with the conflict.

I am disgusted at our media for showing presidential slander over and over again, while adding feel-good stories about someone somewhere of little consequence. We claim to be a free nation that cares about the rest of the world. I guess we should re-write our slogan to say, "we care about the rest of the world, as long as you have oil or something else of interest". Please correct me if I'm wrong, but the whole reason we went to Iraq was because of the atrocities of the Saddam regime. How is what is occurring in Sudan any different? We are standing back and letting people slaughter others. We are literally looking on and then turning a blind eye while loudly proclaiming our humanitarian efforts in other places which do not need us by half. Someone please tell me that I'm wrong or that I have misunderstood the message somewhere. I can't seem to fathom how we can allow this to continue. What is the point in being a super power if you do not use it for those that really need your help? As you have probably guessed, I am angry at the United States for continuing to allow this to happen.

So, for those of you that do not understand what I am talking about, here is a short recap.

The Darfur conflict is an ongoing armed conflict that has been going on in western region of Sudan called Darfur. The conflict is between Janjaweed militia (tribes of Bedouin Arabs) and the land-tilling tribes of non-Baggara.

Sadly enough, while the Sudanese government has denied supporting the Janjaweed militia, they have given support and assistance in attacking the people of Darfur. This deadly conflict has been occurring since 2003.

The UN did step intervene in 2006 but were seen as Foreign Invaders and this was met with Sudanese government opposition.

"Darfur has been embroiled in a deadly conflict for over three years. At least 400,000 people have been killed; more than 2 million innocent civilians have been forced to flee their homes and now live in displaced-persons camps in Sudan or in refugee camps in neighboring Chad; and more than 3.5 million men, women, and children are completely reliant on international aid for survival. Not since the Rwandan genocide of 1994 has the world seen such a calculated campaign of displacement, starvation, rape, and mass slaughter.

Since early 2003, Sudanese armed forces and Sudanese government-backed militia known as “Janjaweed” have been fighting two rebel groups in Darfur, the Sudanese Liberation Army/Movement (SLA/SLM) and the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM). The stated political aim of the rebels has been to compel the government of Sudan to address underdevelopment and the political marginalization of the region. In response, the Sudanese government’s regular armed forces and the Janjaweed – largely composed of fighters of nomadic background – have targeted civilian populations and ethnic groups from which the rebels primarily draw their support – the Fur, Masalit and Zaghawa (notes about our use of ethnic terminology).

The Bush Administration has recognized these atrocities – carried out against civilians primarily by the government of Sudan and its allied Janjaweed militias – as genocide. António Guterres, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, has described the situation in Sudan and Chad as “the largest and most complex humanitarian problem on the globe.” The Sudanese government and the Janjaweed militias are responsible for the burning and destruction of hundreds of rural villages, the killing of tens of thousands of people and rape and assault of thousands of women and girls.

With much international pressure, the Darfur Peace Agreement was brokered in May 2006 between the government of Sudan and one faction of Darfur rebels. However, deadlines have been ignored and the violence has escalated, with in-fighting among the various rebel groups and factions dramatically increasing and adding a new layer of complexity to the conflict. This violence has made it dangerous, if not impossible, for most of the millions of displaced persons to return to their homes. Humanitarian aid agencies face growing obstacles to bringing widespread relief. In August 2006, the UN's top humanitarian official Jan Egeland stated that the situation in Darfur is "going from real bad to catastrophic." Indeed, the violence in Darfur rages on with government-backed militias still attacking civilian populations with impunity.

On July 30, 2004, the UN Security Council adopted resolution 1556 demanding that the government of Sudan disarm the Janjaweed. This same demand is also an important part of the Darfur Peace Agreement signed in May of 2006. On August 31, 2006, the Security Council took the further step of authorizing a strong UN peacekeeping force for Darfur by passing resolution 1706. Despite these actions, the Janjaweed are still active and free to commit the same genocidal crimes against civilians in Darfur with the aid of the Sudanese government.

International experts agree that the United Nations Security Council must deploy a peacekeeping force with a mandate to protect civilians immediately. Until it arrives, the under-funded and overwhelmed African Union monitoring mission must be bolstered. And governments and international institutions must provide and ensure access to sufficient humanitarian aid for those in need.

This issue has not been resolved. The above mentioned facts are taken from the Save Darfur coalition. For more information please read the talking points to become more informed on this issue.

I would like for you to realize that while you sleep comfortably in your bed with food on your table, there are more than 2.5 million people which are refugees. Sadly enough, these have it better than the inconsistent numbers proclaiming more than 400,000 people dead.

Even try to imagine the horror halfway around the world. If there was ever a time for people to come together for the common good....this is it.

Please see the movie "Hotel Rwanda". Awareness is a step in the right direction... even if it is only a baby step. Please join me in spreading the word to those who are naive on the subject. Our media is not covering this and our people are not outraged. It is time that both stand up.

My Birthday Present.....

What do I ask for??

Well, my demands are not too expensive or too outrageous. I don't wish for a trip to Paris or a yacht to sail around the world. Nope, I am much more simple than that. I only have one....

All I ask for is to not be annoyed today. So if you are planning a big annoyance, please zip it and hold if for tomorrow. This is my day after all. If you annoy me by breathing....please hold it until tomorrow. If the sight of you annoys me, please stay at home and if by chance you see me....do not, I repeat, do not make eye contact.

I am another year older (shut you filthy mouth if you about to tell the age) and my patience has dropped another level lower.

I suppose that fact that I am almost past the child-bearing years, about to experience hot flashes and have been a marriage social-outcast for 30 years or so, allows me to say exactly what I want today. This is my day.

(Disclaimer: I may have lied about actual age and physiological processes that are not occurring any time in the near future).
